Numbers often surround us in our everyday life – we calculate household budgets, keep track of time, have to remember different numbers. However, what we may not often be aware of is the fact that numbers and mathematics can be interesting for both children and adults.
By counting steps with mathematics, we can dance, make cakes or calculate how many kilometres we need from home to school. In order to bring numbers and mathematics closer together as a school subject, we celebrated Mathematics Day with a series of interactive workshops in our school.
Students had the opportunity to participate in various workshops: "Cook, cut, go - look for mathematical balance", "Ninja Shurigami", "Make a flower - make the world beautiful", "Escape room", "Spring pick point", "Play and solve" , "Entwined and entangled", and "With sticks to the square". In addition, they also took part in the radio show for children and young people "Big and Small", which is broadcast on the program of HRT Radio Osijek every Saturday morning. Journalist from Radio Osijek, Magdalena Jelečević, visited our school and talked to the students who participated in the Mathematics Day workshops.
Students were given rulers, pocket calculators, magnifying glasses, compasses, USB cards and other promotional materials of the Project that, we believe, will also be useful in mathematics lessons.
