International Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10th in order to promote human rights and remind us of the challenges that society still faces today – discrimination, poverty, violence, lack of freedom and access to health care... This day is an opportunity to show solidarity with people whose rights are threatened. Human Rights Day was established to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948.
International Human Rights Day was marked on Monday, December 11th, within the framework of the KOZMOS project, with creative workshops aimed at promoting understanding of the importance of human rights and providing students with tools and knowledge that will help them grow up as responsible, compassionate and engaged citizens. On this occasion, students could participate in nine workshops designed according to STEM principles, which included interdisciplinarity, critical and logical thinking, connecting and combining concepts, solving problems, using technology, as well as cooperations and teamwork. Some workshops specifically encouraged discussion on potentially controversial situations, such as whether parents are allowed to read their children’s private messages, or which rights are not essential for survival in the New Land. Our activities within the Human Rights Day, as well as the KOZMOS project, were also published on the Osijekexpress portal.
